Access to and around Kaikoura

Location

The East Coast of New Zealand on State Highway 1. Midway between Picton in the north and Christchurch in the south.

Driving Times

2.5 hours drive from Christchurch.  1.5 hours from Blenheim.  2 hours from Picton Ferry Terminal.

Public Transport

Air

There is a regular air service, twice daily, between Wellington and Kaikoura. Timetables can be found at
Sounds Air

Air charter to or from destinations such as Christchurch, Blenheim or Wellington is also available by arrangement at the airfield.

Coach Services

Coaches arriving at Kaikoura depart Christchurch, Picton and Nelson Daily.

Rail

The Coastal Pacific departs north from Christchurch daily each morning and south from the Picton Ferry Terminal in the afternoon.

Shuttles & Buses

Numerous daily Shuttle & Bus Services are available from both north and south of Kaikoura throughout the day. Contact Kaikoura Door To Door Bus Service.

Sea

The Ferries cross Cook Strait regularly connecting with Coaches, Shuttles and the Coastal Pacific at Picton Ferry Terminal.
